                Poetry Fun

When Tim was cleaning out his parents' house after they passed away, he stumbled upon his 3rd grade report card in a drawer full of old papers. His teacher had written, "Tim shows a real knack for poetry!"  As a columnist, Tim has never been averse to a verse. Every few months, he works out his rhyming chops. Mary Schmich, Chicago Tribune columnist and poetry aficionado, agrees with ol' Mrs. Gahan. "You do have the knack!" she wrote to Tim in 2007. Here's a sampling of work from a guy who once found a rhyme for "Gwyneth...."

To All A Good Write--When Tim draws a blank on  column topics with a deadline looming, Santa shows up with an idea that saves the day!

Putting Celebrities Out Of My Head--Tim pays no attention to celebrities (although he seems to know a lot about them)!

Joliet's Poet Laureate--The search is on for a new Illinois Poet Laureate. Tim uses some Joliet topics to make his application.

Ode (an an offer) To An Heiress--Drug company heiress Ruth Lilly has an unrequited love for poetry...and money to burn.

A Holiday Visit From the Bear-olers--The Superfans pay a visit to Tim's door with a song in their hearts...and Rex Grossman on their mind.

It's Time for School, and That Rhymes With "Cruel"--The first day of school ain't very cool. (Tim's gift to a son whose 10th birthday fell on the first day of school!)

A New Lesson From Who-ville--"And now the Grinch waits for all Who-ville to see that Christmas is more than a yard of debris."

The Alpine Slide--A fiberglass contraption on the banks of the Big Muddy sears a memory into Tim's mind, and into his son's face.

The Alpine Slide "Fall"out--The damage is done, but how will it heal?

2007 Bears Nothing To Shuffle About--Update on the classic Super Bowl Shuffle proves the 2007 team is lacking "Sweetness."

The Greenback Scam--A Joliet tourism chief's plan to take a taxpayer-funded sabbatical to Europe is a farce of Seussian proportions.
